Big Birthday Surprise

Last weekend was Tami, our exchange student from China, birthday. She turned 17. We had been planning a surprise birthday party for her for about 2 weeks. We had one of her friends from school help to coordinate getting friends to be here when we came home from dinner Saturday night. Everything was coming together great. Friday morning Tami decided not to go to school because she did not feel well. This really put a kink in the making of her birthday cake which I had planned to do. She had requested a ice cream cake for her birthday. You know me, I can not order a cake. I took it as a challenge to create a copy cat Dairy Queen cake. Luckily, I have a good friend who let me invade her kitchen to make the cake. The cake came together and Tami began feeling better quickly.

Saturday we went to dinner at Flat Top where you make your own stir fry. Once we finished dinner we sent a text to the party people that we were on our way. We arrived home to many people wanting to help Tami celebrate her birthday. She was moved to tears and speechless, which is not like Tami at all. She said, " It is the best birthday I have ever had." Her smile said it all that night. HAPPY Birthday Tami. We are so glad we got to help you celebrate "17".
